Grandmaster Villamayor Buenaventura of Singapore is the champion for the Seniors section of the 2023 Malaysian Chess Festival. The Grandmaster finished one full point of his nearest rival with 7 and a half points out of 9. Villamayor Buenaventura takes home with him 4,000 Ringgit Malaysia and a Challenger trophy for his efforts.

Indonesian International Master Gunawan Ronny finished clear second with 6 and half points winning him 3,000 Ringgit Malaysia.

International Master Lioe Dede took third place after the tie break netting him RM 2000.

Russian Grandmasters Fominyh Alexander is in 4th place with a prize of RM 1000.

Phillipino International Master Bancod Ronald took 5th place with a reward of RM 500.

There were special prizes too. 3 prizes for Best Malaysian were given to:

Internatioanl Master Liew Chee-Meng Jimmy taking home RM 1500 for his efforts.

FIDE Master Ismail Ahmad for second best Malaysian with RM 1000 as prize.

Sabri Mohd Saprin emerged third place netting him RM 500.

Best Seniors (65 to 75 years of age) went to Candidate Master Paul Spiller and he gets RM 1500 for his efforts. Runner up is Singaporean International Master Chan Peng Kong who wins RM 1000.

Best Seniors (above 75 years of age) was won by Kuich Gero and he takes home RM 1500. Runner up in this category is Eddy Kwan who wins RM 1000.

A total of 40 players took part in the Seniors (event 7) which is part of the 9 events of the Malaysian Chess Festival 2023.
