My trusty A5100 broke down during the Penang Open last year. It was already showing sings of failing when my LCD screen kept going blank during the final prize giving in September during the Malaysian Chess Festival 2025.
I could get a used A5100 for around RM 1000 but although it's great at photography, pairing it with my Weebil 3s gymbal for video work was a little tourblesome because I could not remotely turn on video recording using my gymbal button - instead have to press the video button on the camera itself.
The next model suitable for my use would be the Sony ZV E10. Used it is about RM 2000.
I was contemplating not going to the chess festival this August because it's depressing without a camera. Sure you can use phone cameras but I get the most joy out of taking pictures on a real camera. On the day I wanted to quit the festival, Hamid called to ask if I was coming. Of course I had to say yes as I've been attending all 20 previous chess festival.
Ok, so for the first time this year, I'll go "cameraless".
My Xiaomi 15T and Xiomi 9s phones will have to cover the photo taking tasks and my insta360 hat camera for the videos.
