SUKMA held at Dewan Seri Sabak Bernam is only about 30 minutes from my place in Teluk Intan. Yet I chose not to go and instead drove an hour, half of the way heading to Sabak Bernam, to Sitiawan instead - to watch Spiderman.
WHY??? If I pride myself with the nick name "gilaChess".
Here are the reasons:
I'd get chased out
I wanted to go, but I know with a prestigious event like that, I would not get in the hall without a pass. The most I can do is take pictures OUTSIDE the playing hall and maybe talk to whomever is outside of the hall.
I am a Marvel fan
I have been collecting physical comics 30 years ago and my favourites are Wolverine, Hulk and Spiderman - in that order. Hitting 2 out of 3 of my favourite lists means no way I'd miss out on this movie. Also sad to note that the cinema in my town closed down months ago - which explains why I have to drive one hour to watch Spiderman.
Saving energy
The 21st Malaysian Chess Festival is only a couple of weeks away and I want to save energy. Yes it's a thing now that my stamina is no longer limitless. For the entire year, I reserve my chess energy only for the festival, and Penang - if invited.
Not Invited
No one invited me so it's illogical that I go to an event I am not welcomed. Of course, if someone did invite me to go, I would definitely be there - in 30 minutes!
Nevertheless, I did not even cover the 2024 SUKMA chess when chess became an official event, so, this time, I'll make up for it and post whatever I can about the event - even though I am not physically there.
