  The Commonwealth Chess Championship 2026

The 2026 Commonwealth Chess Championship was held at the Hotel Citrus in Kalutara, Sri Lanka from May 16 to May 25. Over 500 players from 14 different countries participated in the Classical, Rapid and Blitz Competitions. There were multiple youth, open and senior categories. The distinguished guests were FIDE President, Mr. Arkady Dvorkovich and Sri Lanka’s Minister of Youth and Sports, Mr. Sunil Kumara Gamage. WCM Chua Jia-Tien was the only player from Penang in the championship which attracted 7 Grandmasters, 1 WGM, several IMs and FMs. Jia-Tien played well to get to the podium with a Second Runner-Up position in the Rapid Chess Championship. Congratulations.
